Rui was born and raised in mainland China, and came to Adelaide for her Master of Social Work degree as an international student. Now she works as a social worker in the disability sector. She understands that people with a disability are a diverse group with a wide range of experiences, abilities, and aspirations. She believes all people, regardless of differences, should have equal rights and recognition of their human dignity, and to have equal opportunities to be educated, to work, receive services and to participate in society. Outside of work, Rui enjoys camping and bushwalking, and is a lover of animals. She has a three-year old ginger cat and is looking forward to having a dog in the near future. Rui's role as Speak My Language Traveller was with the Multicultural Communities' Council of SA.
